St. John of the Cross High School, Sanquelim, is an English medium co-educational institution managed by the Diocesan Society of Education, of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman. The school is recognised by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education and is aided by the Government of Goa. Founded by Rev. Fr. Cajetan Coutinho S.J. it was established as a Parish School in 1965. With a humble beginning of 7 students in standard V, the school now has strength of 339 students in the Primary Section and 810 students in the High School Section. The school has 39 teaching and 12 non-teaching staff on roll. The Manager is a guide and advisor to the staff and students and is responsible for all financial and disciplinary matters. The Headmaster and Assistant Headmistress look after the day-to-day academic and administrative functioning of the School.

Our Coat-of-Arms, illustrated in the school badge is a shield which embodies our motto, PER ADUA AD ASTRA: Overcome obstacles and reach for the stars, encouraging students to aim high through enterprising, hard work and to live a noble life. The logo also shows a multicoloured scenery depicting the land of Sanquelim and Goa, where the school grows steadily. The Cross symbolises the Power of God.

The school has made tremendous progress in academics, sports and various co-curricular activities. From 1978 to 1993, 17 students appeared the Merit List at the SSC Board Examination conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. In 2008-2009, Mast. Anup Naik received the Bal Shree Award, awarded by the National Bal Bhavan, New Delhi, at the hands of the former President Shri. A P J Abdul Kalam. Some of our students have played sports at the national level.

The success of our school and the good reputation it enjoys is due to the sustained efforts of our students and staff over the years. With constant encouragement and guidance from the Manager and Head of the Institution, the school has always kept up with academic innovations and providing students with the best infrastructure and excellent opportunities for their all-round development. Various activities sports, art, music, drama, are conducted throughout the academic year, with special focus on moral and spiritual development of the children. The accomplishments of our ex-students in their careers and social positions they hold are evidence that our school is successfully fulfilling its mission and achieving its goals.
